Azalea is a flowering bonsai — grown as much for its spring blossom as its trunk and foliage. It asks more of you than our easiest species: consistently moist, acidic soil, and it dislikes drying out completely far more than Chinese Elm or jade do. A better second tree once you've kept something forgiving alive for a season, rather than a first purchase.
