Cotoneaster is a hedging and rockery shrub in general garden use, which is exactly why it works well as bonsai — naturally small leaves, tolerant of hard pruning, and fully hardy through a UK winter outdoors with no special protection. White flowers and orange-red berries in season are a genuine bonus most other species on this site don't offer.
