Akadama is imported clay from Japan and the single most common ingredient in serious bonsai soil mixes — it holds water and nutrients while still draining freely, and changes colour when wet, which experienced growers use as a visual watering cue. Buying it in bulk like this only makes sense once you're repotting multiple trees; a single small tree is better served by our smaller soil listings.
